In response to the alarming issues of mangrove deforestation in the Philippines, Citinickel mines proactively tapped the services of the government agencies to support mangrove restoration and rehabilitation efforts to rehabilitate the denuded mangrove forest area of Sofronio Espanola, Palawan.
Two plantation of mangrove area were established by the company: (1) 6.1 Hectares mangrove restoration efforts in Sitio Manangigisda Bgy. Punang, Sofronio Espanola planted last 19 June 2015 with a total of 28,000 propagules recorded 98% survival rate. The efforts have provides positive environmental impacts and exceptional accomplishments. In two years’ time (June 2015-June 2017), it is estimated that the planted mangroves are sequestered a total of 408,409.34 lbs carbon dioxide; (2) 5.4 Hectares mangrove restoration efforts in Sitio Caramay, Sofronio, Espanola, Palawan planted last 17 November 2017 with a total of 27,000 propgules recorded 95% survival rate and its now recuperating and started to cover the denuded mangrove area in Sitio Caramay
